Managing Clinical Images - Open Source and CE Marked

ACS is partnered with O3 Enterprise for a complete Open Source and CE Mark PACS solutions “O3-DPACS” for managing clinical images. It extends all types of data and signals manageable via DICOM protocol. We offer to the healthcare sector a complete suite of Open Source systems, starting from the “image world”. Our partner, O3 Enterprise, is an ISO 13485 certified company covering all its software with the CE Mark and providing its customers with all the guarantees needed.

Common Features
  • Open source: entirely covered by GPL license.

  • Open standard: all communication lay on an open and consolidated standards as DICOM and HL7.

  • Scalability: from small clinics to regional repositories and adaptable to any configuration (NAS, SAN).

  • Portability: the use of Java technology and Web solutions allows total independence from the operating system and hardware configurations. There is therefore no choice forced by the user, but the products are adapted to individual needs.

  • Interoperability: designed in compliance with the IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) project. Designed and implemented as an aggregation of different IHE profiles and actors. The currently implemented profiles are: Scheduled Workflow (SWF), Patient Information Reconciliation (PIR), Consistent Presentation of Images (CPI), Key Image Note (KIN), Reporting Workflow (RWF), Access to Radiology Information (ARI), Audit Trail & Node Authentication (ATNA) and Cross Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS).

  • Security: labeled with the CE Mark in compliance with current legislation. Access to the application, especially as far as the web interface is concerned, is limited by username and password, or by the connection to LDAP systems. In order to guarantee security the authentication of remote nodes is based on certificate exchange. This feature complies with the ATNA (Audit Trail Node Authentication) profile of IHE. This profile guarantees that non-authorized nodes will not connect to the PACS. With these certificates it is also possible to encrypt all DICOM and HL7 data transportsand by doing so provide security in communications especially towards the outside of the network.

  • Traceability of operations: All operations involving personal data are traced by sending a message to an open source audit log server integrated with O3-DPACS which can be connected to all DICOM nodes. This system allows tracing all operations by cross-checking all received messages.

  • Internationalization: translatable to different languages and idioms.

The Multilevel Approach
Department Level
The combination of o3 Software can adreess the needs of the major hospital departments that require a top standard solution for image management, such as radiology and cardiology.

 Hospital Level
The combination of o3 Software can cover all the specialties inside the hospital that need to manage images and video clips, like gastroenterology, surgery room and dermatology. A central archive of bioimages can be set up easily, even connecting other PACS systems.

Regional Level
The combination of o3 Software can be used for distributing images and video clips outside a hospital, for instance to GPs and to the citizens. It is also possible to implement telemedicine and especially teleradiology services as well as to create regional or national repositories of medical images.
